Shannon Scott-Vernaglia, MD

I am a primary care pediatrician and medical educator committed to clinician health and well-being. After serving as the Pediatrics Residency Director for 12 years, I became the Vice Chair for Faculty Development in Pediatrics in 2021, a role I still hold. I also serve as the Director of the Office of Clinical Careers in the MGB Center for Faculty Development. I was a coach for trainees, coaching fellows and residents, for several years prior to embarking on formal certification through WellCoaches School of Coaching. I believe coaching is an important way to bring agency back to clinicians to prioritize what matters in their own lives and careers, aligning with their values and passions. In addition to faculty support and medical education, I am passionate about decreasing stigma around clinician mental illness, and I hope that coaching is one way to help upstream to decrease risk of burnout and depression among our staff. I love to read, garden, and bake in my spare time to maintain my own well-being. My husband of more than 30 years and I love walks in the woods. We have two young adult children who are the joys of our lives. As they embark on careers in biomedical research and medicine, I am committed to helping shape a positive future for them and their peers as the next generation in medicine.
