Rocio Hurtado, MD

Rocío is an ID physician with a diverse career encompassing international health, consultative and primary care as well as medical education. She has been a part of the MGH family since 1996 with a few small detours early on (Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, and Partners in Health). She became keenly interested in what bolsters physician well-being and allows MDs to remain strong during the marathon of Medicine after coming close to burning out more than once and witnessing the effects and toll of the current practice of Medicine on several of her colleagues. She is no stranger to the impostor syndrome (still has some sequelae and periodic flares) and recognizes the impact and difference friendship and support from colleagues and peers within the medical community have made in her life. She is an older mother of twins, loves poetry, the ocean, oil painting and figuring out creative ways to help her children learn and remain curious. Rocío has lived in several countries and has a deep interest in other cultures and backgrounds. She is deeply committed to the Faculty Coaching program’s mission. Some of her areas of interest in coaching include: work-life integration across different life stages, non-traditional paths in Medicine (or how to design a more meaningful career even if it’s unchartered territory), negotiation/conflict/influence/communication skills (she has additional training in executive coaching and the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law), and the power of stress-management (including meditation).
