Lorraine Schratz, MD

As a pediatric, fetal, and preventative cardiologist, I enjoy working with people of all ages to improve their health and help them envision their best future.

I am the Clinical Director of the Raising Healthy Hearts Program which helps families achieve healthy lifestyle habits in the ways that best work for them. To do this well, I certified with the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine in 2021. In my practice I often see patients with stress related symptoms. After cardiac disease is ruled out, I feel it is important to be able to offer them something to help their symptoms, and therefore became certified as a provider of the Stress Management & Resiliency Training program with the Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at MGH, also in 2021. In December 2022 I achieved board certification in obesity medicine.

I have worked in academic medicine as well as private practice, in part & full time roles. Together with my husband I have parented five children (currently ages 18 – 28 years) and have been the caregiver for my parents as they aged.

I enjoy traveling, hiking, outdoor activities, going to the beach, art, photography, reading, volunteering in my community, and being with my family and friends. I am quite involved with the Massachusetts Medical Society, as a delegate and on several committees including the Committee on Legislation where I serve as Vice Chair. I serve as the President of the Board of Directors for Kind Hearts for Kids, a non-profit serving child in foster and kinship care on Cape Cod. We vacation on the Cape but Franklin, MA, has been my home for the last 18 years. I grew up on Long Island, NY and attended Union College and Albany Medical College in their six year medical education program. I then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio for my pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship. My family and I moved to Maryland after fellowship where I worked first for Georgetown University Medical Center and then Children’s National Medical Center. In 2004 we relocated to Massachusetts.

I was coached by a physician-coach and found this to be a valuable experience in crafting a balanced vision for myself as a physician and human being. It is  personally rewarding to coach physician colleagues and others and I am privileged to be able to work with the MGPO to offer these services to the MGB community, whether it is because of a need to achieve balance, re-focus on what is important, or because you are presented with opportunity and need assistance in focusing to make your dream a reality. Coaching lends itself to any situation as it is personally tailored to what the individual is most interested in achieving. I look forward to getting to know you and exploring your strengths and values as you craft your vision for the future.
