Fun In The Sun

In remaining warm weeks of Boston summer and early fall, we all want to maximize our time outside as much as we can! Read below for some fun ways to enjoy the weather, while also protecting your skin from the sun and your body from too much heat.

Boston-based activities

Picnic in the Common

Boston Common is so beautiful in the summer months. Grab a blanket and some snacks and enjoy some relaxing time on the grass under the huge Willow trees in the park! The warm weather combined with the plentiful shaded areas the Common has to offer make for a wonderful afternoon.

Visit the Arnold Arboretum

The Arboretum is a great visit for nature-lovers, particularly in the summer when everything is blooming!

Snack on the Summertime Foods Boston Offers

Only on the coast of the Northeast can you indulge in lobster, clams, oysters, and all the other delicious shellfish during the summer months. Dig into some oysters on ice to cool off, or a warm lobster roll drizzled in butter for a true New England summer eating experience.

Enjoy One of the Dozen Outdoor Concerts and Festivals

Among many others, St. Anthony’s Italian Street Feast Festival happens during August in Boston and is such a fun way to experience the food and culture of the North End. Explore here or find one of so many other outdoor evening events!

Anywhere, anytime!

Water Gun Fight!

Water balloons, water guns, and all those other wonderful water games you played as a child? Do them with your friends as an adult! Let loose and play in the heat like you used to — don’t let anything hold you back! Summer is for enjoying those simple pleasures, like soaking your friends with your backyard hose.

Berry Picking

Admittedly for those less humid days, blueberry and strawberry picking is such a great way to experience the fresh fruits summer has to offer. Make sure to wear a hat, though — it’s not usually shaded at the berry farms!

Make Your Own Summer Treats

When it’s too hot to even venture outside, consider making your own shaved ice, sno-cones, popsicles, or even ice cream if you’re up to the task! This can be so fun for those days when you want it to feel like summer, but can’t even imagine stepping out into the heat.
