April Hirschberg, MD, DipABLM

I am an adult psychiatrist who trained in the MGH/ McLean Combined Psychiatry Program. After residency I have remained on staff in the MGH Department of Psychiatry first in the Center for Women’s Mental Health and later in the MGH Cancer Center. I have also completed Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) Certification with the MGH Benson- Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine. Since 2018 I have been leading stress management and resiliency programs for individuals with cancer at MGH and I am starting a SMART program for individuals at risk for hereditary cancer syndromes. I received the Mass General Physician Organization Uplift Award from the Frigoletto Committee on Physician Well Being to deliver mind-body group interventions to MGH Cancer Center physicians. I obtained Harvard Medical School CME accreditation for this program which was well received and had overwhelmingly positive feedback. Since the Covid-19 pandemic I have also delivered adapted SMART programs to frontline clinicians at MGB. In 2021, I became board certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and I am active in the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the Lifestyle Medicine groups at the MGH. In 2022 I became certified as a Health and Wellness Coach by the Wellcoaches School of Coaching. For the past several years I have served as a member of the Acton-Boxborough Superintendent’s Wellness Advisory Committee. My husband is also a physician and we live in Acton with our two teenagers and rescue dog Roxy. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages as they learn more about themselves and learn skills and strategies that work for them to promote wellness. Coaching is another way to help promote well-being and resilience and I look forward to the opportunity to share coaching with my MGB colleagues.
